Ten

Sia

Lightheaded and about to vomit, I worked as fast as I could. Tearing off condom packages, extracting the lube and rubbing it all over my hand and watching the door before Savage returned, I felt as if my heart was about to explode.

I knew I said staying here as long as possible could be beneficial, but I wouldn’t get a better opportunity to ever run away. I had to use it.

The amount of pain shooting through my body was too much, but so was my adrenaline. I pushed through, squeezing my eyes, stifling a groan as I twisted my wrist and painfully pulled my fist with all my strength out of the now slippery cuff.

First time didn’t work. Second. Third. I got to my knees and used my other hand for support while bending my thumb as much as possible. Fourth time, biting through the pain of the concussion and the searing of metal on my skin, it finally worked.

I gasped as I looked at my scraped bloody yet free hand. I’d never been more thankful for my small hands and skinny fingers. Quickly, I rolled over and snatched the gun from the side table, my legs wobbling, my head swimming in vertigo.

I fixed my clothes and shoved everything left that was mine in the backpack. As I flung it on my shoulder, the door squeaked open. Dizzy and shaking, I aimed my gun at the door, the two figures coming in blurry, but I was sure one of them was Savage.

“Jesus Christ, Sia,” he mumbled.

I blinked and squinted and then widened my stare as much as I could, but nothing was helping me getting a clear vision or standing steady. “Just get out of the way and let me out of here.”

“Not gonna happen. Look at you. You need help. Put that down before you hurt yourself.”

“Savage, please. I don’t want to shoot you or anybody. Just let me go. Plea—”

I hit the floor before I could finish, and everything went black.
